Mad March hares

by Samantha Mattocksupdated on October 6, 2021March 1, 2021 Leave a Comment on Mad March hares

It was something of a relief to turn over the calendar to a new month this morning. January was full of dark and grey days and, in spite of it being my birthday month, I struggled. Then came the rain and snow of February, and it felt as though winter would never end. Spring always …

September days

by Samantha Mattocksupdated on October 6, 2021September 7, 2020 Leave a Comment on September days

Oh autumn, how I love thee… The bounty in the hedgerows, that amazing light as the sun begins its descent in the sky, and that slight chill in the air that makes you begin to think about log fires and big bowls of veggie-packed stews and soups. There is no doubt that 2020 has been …

The Norfolk Foodie Series

by Samantha Mattocksupdated on October 6, 2021June 20, 2020 Leave a Comment on The Norfolk Foodie Series

With lockdown resulting in all horse shows around the world being on a pause, and printing of The Arabian Breeders’ Magazine on hold for the time being, I have had the luxury of time to explore other avenues in my life. One of these has been a long-held desire to conduct a series of interviews …

World Book Day may have been and gone, but parents World Book Day may have been and gone, but parents are still sending me photos of their children dressed up as Mister Mishkins!

The first photo is C, and the attention to detail in the costume is amazing - the key, the handkerchief, the tail!

Then we have Charlie, whose school asks everyone to go in wearing pyjamas and to bring their favorite book.

As an author, this is everything. That children love my words and world so much that they want to share their love with others. Both children took The Magic of Mister Mishkins to school, and C even read to some nursery children! Oh, my heart...!

Thank you to their mums for sharing these with me, and giving me permission to share with you.
I needed this. A very slow and gentle few hours wi I needed this. A very slow and gentle few hours with @paulasmith.2025 including this perfect chocolate and blackcurrant cake from @earshamstreetcafe

It was exactly what a chocolate cake should be - rich, nuggets of chocolate throughout, and zingy with the blackcurrant bursts.

I've fancied a proper chocolate cake for a while now, and this absolutely ticked all the boxes.
Reading opens new worlds and takes your mind away Reading opens new worlds and takes your mind away on magnificent adventures. What are you reading for World Book Day?

Thank you to all the readers and followers, who share our words and worlds.

Ah, la luna - I have missed you. With the February Ah, la luna - I have missed you. With the February rains, it was hard to see the moon most night's, so it makes tonight's 99% waxing gibbous especially beautiful.

Tomorrow night is the full moon - the worm moon, complete with a total lunar eclipse. Time to make wishes, tread carefully, and lay the delicate fabric of your dreams.
Happy birthday Ricky - aka Rickle Pickle! 6 years Happy birthday Ricky - aka Rickle Pickle! 6 years old today, and very much at the heart of the Marauder Fluffball Mob!
March is here with its mad March hares - and a lit March is here with its mad March hares - and a little bit of madness maybe in my own life!

I love this month as it begins with World Book Day. I have already had messages from parents, saying that their children want to dress up as Mister Mishkins this year, and I have schools booked in to talk to on the day. Seeing children's faces light up as they fall in love with words is everything; I can't wait!

March is also about promise - the promise of spring, with a hazy warmth on the breeze, a riot of colour in hedgerows and gardens, birds busy making nests, and lambs gambolling in the fields.

What are your plans for this month? As ever, I love to hear your news, so do let me know.

I am not sure why beige food always tastes good, b I am not sure why beige food always tastes good, but this casserole I made last night is the epitome of delicious!

I have been under the weather for a few weeks now, feeling worse this week. I craved a richer version of chicken soup - and so made this, with cannellini beans and vegetables.

It was exactly what the doctor ordered, and the leftovers tasted even better for lunch. Warming, soothing, natural, reviving. Comfort food at it's very best.
Still my favourite video of @magicalmistermishkins Still my favourite video of @magicalmistermishkins - it's the look on his face when he realises he's about to fall! 😹
